Bluff Trail hikers would not have missed the magnificent new murals on the highway 103 overpass as you approach the trailhead for The Bluff Trail. From the BLT newsletter Winter 2016:
“Some of you may have noticed something new on the trail a beautiful new mural on the highway 103 overpass. How did this project come about? “
“Although graffiti, when expertly done, is a well-recognized art form, this was not necessarily the case for the haphazard collection that covered the 103 overpass. BLT R2T engaged Blackbook Collective Art and Clothing, a company formed by local artists, to undertake the project. The Collective designed the murals, engaged a talented group of artists to do the work, and executed the project in a matter of days. Over the years, the BLT R2T has worked in close cooperation with the Five Bridges Wilderness Heritage Trust (FBWHT), and Woodens River Watershed Environmental Organization (WRWEO) on a variety of environmental projects, and this was no exception. The FBWHT, WRWEO, and the BLT R2T shared equally in the costs associated with the project. We sincerely thank those organizations for their funding and enthusiasm for this project, as well as the Blackbook Collective for their talent in realizing the suggestions put forward by the Board.” – BLT Newsletter Winter 2016
